Introducing the New RICARDO Strawberry Cake

We’re giving you a taste of summer by ringing in the spring season with our new RICARDO Strawberry Cake. We spoke with Isabelle Deschamps Plante, the mastermind behind this seasonal delight, for all the details!

Why choose strawberries?

“Because I love them the most!” reveals Isabelle, chef at Café RICARDO and creator of the cake. “I grew up in Île d’Orléans and, for me, strawberries signal the arrival of summer.” Ricardo agrees: It’s the fruit he loves the most during the warm-weather months!

Natural ingredients 

Inspired by a classic strawberry shortcake, our cake is made with real fruit. “I wanted a cake made with 100% real strawberries, without any artificial colours or flavours. Each layer is covered with a rich white-chocolate whipped cream mixed with puréed strawberries,” she says. “It’s like a small cloud in each bite.”

Occasions big and small 

This fresh and fruity cake is perfect for brunch or a meal out on the balcony. “It’s fancy enough to include on special occasions, like Mother’s Day,” Isabelle adds. 

Crunchy texture 

The crumble, made with a white chocolate coating and powdered freeze-dried strawberries, adds a crunchy texture, a great contrast to the moist cake. “When in season,” she suggests, “it’s best to pair a slice of cake with fresh strawberries.”

Where to find it

Our RICARDO Strawberry Cake is available for a limited time at IGA stores across Quebec, in the frozen food aisle. Once home, it can be stored in the freezer for future enjoyment, or it can be defrosted in the refrigerator for 24 hours. With a bit of patience and considering its generous size (8 to 10 servings), everyone is sure to get a slice.

You can also make it at home once strawberry season has hit its peak!
