  1. With the rack in the middle position, preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, oil, and vanilla with an electric mixer. Add the egg and beat until smooth. At low speed or with a wooden spoon, combine with the dry ingredients.
  4. With a 60 ml (¼ cup) ice cream scoop, place six to seven dough balls on each baking sheet. Press the balls so that they are about 2-cm (¾-inch) thick.
  5. Bake one sheet at a time for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or cold.

  1. This recipe was really helpful, as well as delicious. the cookies are not to sweet, but not to bland either. the only thing i had a problem with was the baking time, it was too long for the cookies and some of them came out burnt. would recommend less time to bake

  2. These turned out amazing. I read the comments between Shawn E and Claudine B and followed the recipe exactly measuring out a 1/4 cup of cookie dough. The cookies are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A perfect Oatmeal cookie. Added chocolate chunks and they were so decadent.

  4. Excellent base-recipe for oatmeal cookies. I added one cup of raisins because I like raisins. Next time I will add chocolate chips.

  6. To Shawn e. You must have not measured out each cookie with an ice cream scoop of about 1/4 cup. That size makes for a big Quebec-style oatmeal cookie. The oil and bicarb are what give this cookie its characteristic flavour and texture. You might want to try it again... (I reduced the bicarb by a pinch [but only a pinch], and they turned out even better!)

  7. That did not turn out well. First, 12 minutes at 375 is way too long. Cookies were so overdone. I normally use another recipe that has twice the butter and no oil (oil in a cookie recipe?) but this was just not good. Sorry, not a fan of this recipe.

  9. Won't let me edit my previous comment: I forgot to mention that I used the individual packaged flavored oats. Really wanted to make these and didn't have the rolled-oats on hand. It added some flavor too.. I used the apple cinnamon packs.

  10. So simple. So quick. I replaced the sugar with honey (looked up what would be the equivalent measurements for replacing) and it still came delicious. Very soft and tasty. Next time I will add more vanilla extract, but thats more for preference.

  14. Fantastic cookie recipe. I made a batch with whole wheat flour (as I didn’t have white all purpose flour), added 2 TBSP of water and they turned out Absolutely delicious. Definitely use this recipe again. Might try cutting back the sugar next time.
