Spiced Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule is my go-to order whenever I pull up a stool at Kabinet, a Russian-inspired cocktail bar in Montreal. Mule cocktails have a kick (hence the name) thanks to ginger ale, or its spicier, fermented cousin, ginger beer. I like to serve my take on the classic in a copper mug: The tradition dates back to the 1940s and a vodka distributor’s efforts to market the Moscow Mule at bars across the United States.   1. In a copper mug or glass tumbler, combine candied ginger, vodka and lime juice. Stir.
  2. Fill the mug with ice cubes and top up with ginger ale.
  3. Garnish with a mint sprig, a skewer of candied ginger and a lime wedge. Sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon.
