Trending: The New Face of Sake

Japanese rice wine has seen a surge in demand in recent years, both here and internationally. Here’s a glance at the popular alcoholic beverage.

Perhaps 10 or so years ago, when ordering sake at a restaurant, it wasn’t uncommon to have it served warm, in a nondescript bottle, with little to no information about the product. We now know that sake is best enjoyed cold, that there are many varieties on the market, and that they have diverse flavour profiles, much like wine.

In Montreal, many restaurants feature it on their menu, like at JIAO Dim Sum bar or Fleurs et Cadeaux. It’s very versatile, enjoyed not only alongside sushi, but also with foods that are more difficult to pair with, like eggs and blue cheese, for example.
