Trending: Restaurants Adapting to Autistic Clientele

Some restaurant dining rooms are now adjusting their atmosphere to better welcome autistic and neurodivergent customers and their families.

This is the case in several dozen St-Hubert restaurants across Quebec. Every Sunday during lunchtime, the music volume is lowered and the lights are dimmed. Families are also offered tables in quieter areas, and sensory kits are provided for a more pleasant experience.

In Toronto, Korean chicken restaurant Sarang Kitchen suggests several time slots where external stimuli are also reduced. Other businesses have followed suit in recent years by also creating spaces for employees living with autism spectrum disorder, like Chez Cheval in Saint-Hilaire and Sainte-Julie. These initiatives ensure everyone can enjoy a pleasant experience when eating out.
