Slow-Cooker Beef Stroganoff

  1. Cut the sirloin into 1-cm (1/2-inch) wide strips against the grain of the meat.
  2. Dust the meat pieces with flour and brown in a skillet over high heat in the oil, a little at a time. Season with salt and pepper. Place into the slow cooker.
  3. In the same skillet, brown the onions in the butter. Add the mushrooms, garlic and cook for 5 minutes over high heat. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Deglaze with the wine and pour into the slow cooker. Add the remaining ingredients except for the yogurt and parsley or chives.
  5. Cover and cook on high heat for about 2 hours, or low heat for 4 to 5 hours, approximately.
  6. Add the yogurt and adjust the seasoning. Do not boil.
  7. Sprinkle with parsley or chives and serve with egg noodles.


  1. I feel this is lacking something. Its a little bland for me, although my husband loved it. It's super easy to make, on the plus side, but I think next time I'll try soured cream instead of the plain yoghurt and maybe more salt. Not bad, just not as good as some other slow cooker recipes from Ricardo.

  4. Delicious flavour but I made the mistake of using 2% Oikos greek yogurt, which curdled. Will use higher fat, non-Greek yogurt next time.

  5. Making this again today (Sunday) for the fourth is delish...great dish for company (3 times) and wonderful leftovers...the first time I did on low for 5 hours, and the meat broke down too on high for 2 hours and it is perfect.

  6. I like it, however my man and child said it lacked the ka-pow that I usually cook with. They actually barely ate it, I was very disappointed because it is more labor intense than I usually do. They want MORE flavor.. I followed the directions exactly too.. sorry, but this receipe will be filed under failure, do not make again.

  7. Made this tonight. Didn't change a thing, and it was delicous. The meat was so tender and tasty. I used the 'stir fry sirloin' from the grocery store which really saved on time since it takes a while to fry the batches of meat. I will definately make this again. Yum!!
