Homemade Vanilla Extract

  • Makes 750 ml (3 cups), approximately 




  1. Place the vanilla beans in a glass jar or bottle. Pour rum or vodka three quarters up the height of the vanilla beans. Close the jar tightly and let steep for two to three months at room temperature. Gradually, as you are using the vanilla extract, add alcohol, as needed, and vanilla beans that you have used the seeds in one of your recipes. The whole vanilla beans that have steeped can be used to prepare other recipes.
