With the rack in the middle position, preheat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F).
Cut a thin slice off the base and top of each apple. With an apple corer, remove the core. Cut each apple into four thick slices.
On a baking sheet, spread the apple slices. Drizzle with the maple syrup and dot with butter. Bake for about 15 minutes or until tender. Return the slices and let stand for about 5 minutes. Divide the apples among four plates. Top with granola and ice cream. Drizzle with the cooking syrup.
