Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Think grilled cheese sandwiches are a cinch to make? Not so fast! If you want to pull off the perfect one, you have to follow some rules. Here we reveal how to get flawless cheesy goodness every time.



  1. Spread half of the butter on one side of a bread slice. Place the cheese on the unbuttered side, close the sandwich and butter the top slice.
  2. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, grill the sandwich for 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip the sandwich over and lightly press with a spatula. Grill until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  3. Let the grilled cheese rest for 2 minutes. Cut into triangles and serve with soup or sliced raw vegetables.


For a creamier centre, spread the inside of the sandwich with mayonnaise before grilling. This recipe is from "Ricardo for Kids".
