Meet your new comfort food fave! We took the classic Quebec dessert, pouding chômeur, and gave it an apple twist just in time for autumn.

  1. With the rack in the middle position, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

  1. In a small pot, bring all of the ingredients to a boil while whisking. Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.

  1. Place the apples in an 8-inch (20 cm) square glass baking dish. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, butter and egg with an electric mixer for 3 minutes. With the machine on low speed, whisk in the dry ingredients alternating with the milk. Pour the batter over the apples and drizzle with the sauce.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.

  1. I am usually very conservative about using recipes with high amounts of sugar, so I made this to take with me when I went to visit someone. It was so good that I will certainly make it again, at home the next time. Delicious!

  2. A great way to use our orchard apples. I made it as the recipe indicated but might try with our maple syrup. L

  3. Humm..! Ma famille a beaucoup aimé cette recette :)
