10 Places to Eat in Holbox, Mexico

Our chef Isabelle loves Mexico and has visited often. She particularly enjoys Holbox, a small island off the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula. Find out where she likes to eat and the activities she partakes in while travelling the area.

1. Los Tacos de Barbacoa

This very popular taco stand is known for its delicious barbecue tacos filled with melted cheese. You can choose between soft or crispy tortillas.

2. Santos Fuegos

At this restaurant, everything is cooked over a wood fire. The service is extremely friendly and highlights local produce. It’s a can’t-miss spot!

3. Roots Pizzas

Here’s a pizzeria with a huge courtyard inside. Be sure to try the al pastor pizza and the lobster pizza, which is a must-try when in season.

4. La Gelateria

Stop by for the artisanal ice creams and coconut sorbet, which is divine, as is the peanut and chocolate flavour with its ultra-creamy texture.

5. Fuego Beach Club

This restaurant, located inside the Awa Hotel, serves delicious fish ceviche. It’s a quiet spot and has a great view of the ocean.

6. Another Clandestino

At once a café and a bakery, this is the perfect spot for a nice breakfast. The calm vibe and the cool dining room make it ideal for when you need a break from the heat.

7. Bar japonais Ama

Located in the Casa Las Tortugas hotel, this Japanese bar boasts incredible sushi! The gyoza and crab-truffle maki are particularly excellent. Bonus: the patio dining area offers a stunning sunset view. 

8. Copal Café

This charming café with a lovely outdoor courtyard makes excellent coffee and delicious smoothie bowls brimming with fruit.

9. Restaurante La Playa de Ñaña

Come in for the laid-back tiki vibes. Stay for the outstanding cocktails. You can also lounge on a deckchair under the shade of a palm tree right on the beach.

10. Churros & Marquesitas

You absolutely have to try these specialties sold by street vendors. Marquesitas are a crispy filled crepe, available in sweet and savoury versions.
