Ingredients: 1/2 cup (105 g) brown sugar; 1/4 cup (60 ml) water; 1 Empire or Cortland apple, cored and diced; 1/4 cup (40 g) unbleached all-purpose flour; 1/4 tsp baking soda; 1/4 cup (55 g) unsalted butter, softened; 1/4 cup (55 g) sugar; 1 egg; Vanilla ice cream, to taste

- 1/2 cup (105 g) brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 1 Empire or Cortland apple, cored and diced
Cake
- 1/4 cup (40 g) unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup (55 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup (55 g) sugar
- 1 egg
- Vanilla ice cream, to taste

Preparation

Apples
- Place 2 tbsp of the brown sugar, 1 tbsp (15 ml) of the water and one-quarter of the diced apple in four 3/4-cup (180 ml) ramekins.
- Place the ramekins in the basket of an air fryer. Cook for 8 minutes at 350°F (180°C).
Cake
- Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the flour and baking soda.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar with a wooden spoon. Add the egg and mix until smooth. Stir in the dry ingredients.
- Remove the basket from the air fryer. Spread the cake batter over the boiling apple mixture in the ramekins.
- Continue to cook for 8 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre of a cake comes out clean. Remove the basket from the air fryer and let sit for 5 minutes or let cool longer before removing the ramekins from the basket. Serve hot or cooled with ice cream.
