Waldorf Salad with Green Apple, Celery and Pecans

20 MIN
A standard is a standard because it works. This salad celeb (made of apples, grapes, celery and walnuts) originated more than a century ago at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, which gave it its name. Timeless classics, like the Waldorf salad, are also open to interpretation, and our riff has Granny Smiths, celery, grapes and pecans lightly tossed with a mayonnaise-based dressing on a ballad of baby lettuce.

  1. In a bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients. Set aside.

  1. In a large bowl, combine the lettuce, grapes, pecans and celery. Lightly oil and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Divide the salad between four plates, top with the apple slices and drizzle with the dressing.

  1. I just made this salad for a light Christmas week dinner. It was wonderful. I added chopped chicken breast to make it a meal, the chicken marinated in garlic, olive oil, apple cider vinegar and a mix of herbs, then grilled. It's a very pretty, crisp salad with a really nice light dressing.

  2. Delish salad

  3. I love this waldorf salad. I also have my own mayonnaise recipe that I alternate with it. J. Hiscock
