Cooking fava beans
To peel fresh fava beans, cooked in a pot of boiling water for about 1 minute. Drain and cool in a bowl of ice water. Remove the husk. There are frozen broad beans (green beans), peeled or unpeeled, in specialty or Middle Eastern grocery stores. They are also sold canned, but the result will be much less interesting for this soup.
