3 Orange-Based Holiday Drinks

While people might no longer stuff oranges into Christmas stockings, this winter citrus fruit often remains at the heart of holiday traditions, notably in cocktails. In collaboration with Grand Marnier, here are a few refined cocktails, as well as recipe suggestions to pair them with.

1. Spiced Cranberry Punch

This festive punch will appeal to those who enjoy drinks that are altogether refreshing, tangy and sparkling. Given that cranberries are a seasonal staple, enhance the drink by preparing a syrup flavoured with holiday spices. The flavour of the syrup pairs well with amber rum and Grand Marnier. Adding sparkling wine when serving provides the festive touch needed to kick off your evening. The punch tastes great with a chicken liver mousse terrine with cranberry jelly. 

Simple pairings

Grand Marnier is traditionally made with cognac and the essence of wild tropical oranges from the Caribbean, which retain a flavour that’s at once sweet and bitter. With notes of citrus and dried fruits, like apricot, it pairs wonderfully with desserts that contain chocolate, vanilla and dried fruit. It also goes well with savoury dishes by creating a nice contrast with recipes made with herbs and caramelized vegetables, or that contain smoky or spicy notes.

2. Orange and Passion Fruit Margarita

The holiday season is the perfect time to reinvent the classics. Made with passion fruit nectar, this margarita offers a beautiful combination of sweetness and acidity. Easy to prepare, make its base using equal parts tequila, Grand Marnier and lime. Add the delicate scent of Mexican tajín seasoning, and enjoy this perfectly sippable cocktail while reconnecting with friends and family over the holiday season. It’s best served with chili crisp sautéed shrimp.

3. Orange Dessert Coffee

For a gourmet coffee with a comforting flavour to enjoy with dessert, we recommend this recipe that will warm up the festivities. Make it with a blend of espresso and Grand Marnier, and then top it with a dollop of whipped cream and a touch of nutmeg. It strikes a nice balance of spiced, sweet and creamy. It’s a rich drink, best enjoyed in front of a cozy fire, and is a perfect match for our Florentine cookies.
