November 22 to 26, 2021: Weekday Recipes That Make the Home Smell Amazing

The joy of cooking and eating isn’t only about tastes and textures; it’s also about the amazing smells. After all, who doesn’t enjoy coming home after a long day to the most amazing aromas wafting through the air? This week’s menu is all about making your house feel and smell cozy and homey.

Monday: One-Pot Rice with Sausages, Fennel and Peppers

The combination of sausages and peppers is a classic; we’re certain the smell alone will transport you to your childhood! This one-pot rice dish, which also includes pleasant and aromatic fennel, will quickly become a new favourite this winter.

Tuesday: Drunken Spaghetti

Our version of spaghetti all’ubriaco will lead to love at first bite. It’s a recipe that looks deceptively easy to make and requires only a few ingredients; the pasta is bathed in red wine, but as it cooks down, the alcohol will burn off. What’s left will be a gorgeous purple hue, with unbelievable depth of flavour…and a subtle sweetness that will fill the air.

Wednesday: Chicken and Squash Thai Curry

Is there a more wonderful scent than that of a curry? Warm and spicy, it is a welcoming scent to come home to on a cold day. Our recipe also includes a homemade green curry paste (rather than opting for store-bought!) that features fresh Thai basil, ginger and chili peppers.

Thursday: Seared Pork Chops with Rosemary

Cooking with herbs is a great way to imbue your meals with flavour. We have many favourites, but the distinct aroma of rosemary just can’t be beat. Part of the mint family, it smells fresh, woodsy and citrusy; these aromas all come through when browning pork chops in oil with the rosemary, as well as garlic. Heavenly!

Friday: Squash and Bacon Pita Pizzas

Squash is still in season, so we highly recommend these simple pita pizzas. After all, the gourd is cooked along with bacon, and there’s no scent quite like that of sizzling bacon! As the fat melts and the sugars begin to caramelize, the salty, cured meat releases that distinct aroma most meat lovers just can’t resist.

Dessert: Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies (The Best)

We couldn’t help but sneak in a sweet treat to this week’s menu, particularly one that is easy to make on a weeknight. We couldn’t think of a more comforting scent than that of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, so here is our very best recipe.
