What to Do with Leftover Sour Cream

Got a small amount of sour cream left over after having used some in a recipe? There’s always ways to use the rest rather than toss it in the compost bin. Here are recipe suggestions if you have a few spoonfuls on hand.

1. Make a dip

Adding sour cream to dips gives them a rich and slightly tangy flavour. Try it in a classic blue cheese dip, or in a cheesy avocado dip.

2. Use as a topping

It’s easy to fall for sour cream’s creaminess, which is why it’s the perfect garnish for lettuce soup or a borscht.

3. Bake a cake

Sour cream adds softness to a cake batter, such as in a plum cake, banana cake or even cheesecake.

4. Make a pizza sauce

It makes for an excellent sauce, particularly on a white pizza that includes a cheese and cream topping. In this recipe, you’ll find a blend of sour cream (a great way to use your excess!), Parmesan cheese and chili pepper for added kick.
